How to test the water absorbency of hotel towels?

The water absorption performance of hotel towels is primarily evaluated through four dimensions: weight, fiber material, water absorption speed, and water storage capacity. High-quality products should complete the water absorption test within 30 seconds without leaving any residual water droplets. Below are specific testing methods and purchasing suggestions:
1. Professional testing process
1. Grammage detection
The industry standard measures towel density in grams per square meter (GSM), with a range of 300-600GSM commonly used in hotels. In the laboratory, the weight per unit area is measured using an electronic balance. The higher the GSM, the denser the fiber interlacing, and the stronger the water absorption and storage capacity.
2. Fiber material analysis
- Long-staple cotton (such as Egyptian cotton and Xinjiang cotton) has a fiber length of over 35mm. When observed under a microscope, the fiber cross-section appears hollow, and its water absorption capacity can reach up to 8 times its own weight
- The cross-section of bamboo fiber is full of pores, with a water absorption rate 50% faster than that of pure cotton, and its antibacterial performance is tested simultaneously
3. Dynamic water absorption test
Distilled water at 25℃ is vertically dripped from a height of 10cm onto the surface of a flat towel, and professional instruments record the following data:
-0-5 seconds: The diameter of the water droplet diffusion should be ≥15cm
- Within 30 seconds: If there is no water stain or reflection on the surface, it is considered qualified
- Water retention test: After saturation and hanging for 30 seconds, the amount of dripping water is ≤5%
II. Quality verification techniques
Consumers can make a simple judgment by folding the towel in half and placing it in a container filled with water. High-quality products should sink to the bottom within 3 seconds. When unfolded and hung, the moisture should permeate evenly without localized water accumulation. After multiple washes, the pH value should be tested (ideally within the range of 6.5-7.5) to ensure that the fibers are not affected by detergent residue.
III. Hotel-Level Towel Purchasing Guide
We supply hotel textiles that have passed ISO9001 quality management system certification, and all products have undergone:
-8-step water washing and preshrinking treatment to enhance the hydrophilicity of fibers
"-No fluorescent agent testing report"
30,000 friction tests ensure the durability of the suede surface
Professional-grade absorbent towels are crafted using a double-sided spiral weaving process, achieving a 40% increase in water absorption efficiency compared to ordinary products. They come with supporting documentation proving a color fastness rating of at least Grade 4. For bulk purchases, customers can receive a complimentary third-party quality inspection report. Additionally, custom embroidery of LOGOs is supported without compromising the water absorption performance.
